About Shari
Shari Botwin, LCSW opened her Cherry Hill private practice after leaving the renowned Renfrew Center in 1996. She provides individual, group and family therapy with a specialization in treating trauma, abuse, eating disorders, anxiety and depression. Shari holds a Masters Degree in Social Work from Rutgers University.
Shari's first book, "Free At Last! The Power of Relationships in Overcoming Trauma, Abuse and Eating Disorders (Daybreak Publishing, January 2004) focused on the power of healing and supportive relationships in the recovery process. The book is comprised of patient stories who overcame significant obstacles to recover from their trauma, move beyond using self-destructive coping mechanisms to living a full life. Shari began writing her book after years of working through her own history of trauma. Once she realized it was possible to do more than just survive, but thrive, she was determined to get the word out to thousands of women who have felt shame, hopeless and defeated.
A variety of media have interviewed Shari on how she uses her personal experience of surviving trauma to help others heal. In May of 2012 Shari was the cover story for the Jewish Exponent on becoming a single by choice mommy after living through years of abuse. She has also appeared on ABC, NBC, CBS, CN-8 and WHYY radio. Shari continues to present workshops and provide outreach at universities and schools throughout the country. Topics include recovering from abuse, letting go of an eating disorder and finding ways to maintain healthy relationships in the aftermath of surviving trauma, eating disorders and depression. In the past Shari has spoken at Drexel , University of Pennsylvania, Hofstra , Arcadia, Temple, Rutgers, Laselle, Rowan and West Chester University.
